Heavy
I personally think this is a really awesome metal album. Super heavy with some very cool riffs. Also some nice melodic pieces too. Very little, but cool. Honestly though, it sounds nothing like Motley Crue. Not just because Vince Neil isn’t the singer! It just doesn’t sound like their usual stuff. And the album is pretty solid all the way through. Unlike a lot of the stuff after the Shout at the Devil album, I thought had only a few good songs. This rocks throughout. But if you’re expecting a Vince Neil style Crue, you won’t get it here.

MOTLEY CRUE JOHN CORABI
HARD BANGIN HEAD KNOCKIN LOUD ALBULM, JOHN CORABI WAS A PERFECT FIT FOR MOTLEY CRUE WHEN VINCE NEIL DEPARTED, THIS IS ONE OF MOTLEY CRUES BEST ALBUMS EVER! CORABI'S WRITING & GUITAR PLAYING ADDED HARD & TRUE HEART & SOUL TO THE CRUE'S LINE UP, RESPECT TO NEIL, BUT CORABI ROCKED HARDER! 1. Power to the Music 2. Uncle Jack 3. Hooligan's Holiday 4. Misunderstood 5. Love Shine 6. Poison Apples 7. Hammered 8. Til Death Do Us Part 9. Welcome to the Numb 10. Smoke the Sky 11. Droppin Like Flies 12. Driftaway 13. Hypnotized [#][*] 14. Babykills [*] 15. Livin' in the Know [#][*]

Great debut album. Wait, what?
I hate to admit it, but I have no idea how this album was never on my radar. The big mistake was that Motley Crue didn't change their name when John Corabi came on board when Vince bailed. I do like early Crue, but under the Crue name, this hands down blows all their other albums out of the water. Corabi took them to a harder, darker side, and pushed the band to a higher creative level. They missed the mark on this big time and could have rocked big time for a long time. When Vince came back, what did he bring? Two cool songs on a couple of lame albums. Great effort.

Hands down one of Motley's best albums. I've actually had it on cassette for a long time, I just wanted a CD copy. I've been listening to it again. I can tell you if Mick Mars teams up with John Corabi again, wow!!! I'd buy the album without even hearing it. Hopefully Tommy Lee will join the effort. I think we can wright off Nikki Sixx from ever working with members of Crue again based on his attitude towards the band and the fact that Six A.M. is moving forward for him. Im a huge Motley fan, big fan of Vince Neil, but this album rocks!!! If you don't have this in your Crue collection, get it now, it will not disappoint!!!

A Crue of a different color
This is not the Motley Crue that most are used to.Vince Neil was either kicked out or left on his own during the recording of this album (depending on who tells the story), so Nikki Sixx used his connections in the biz to find John Corabi, who started with LA's The Scream. Corabi contributes a lot of work, including co-writing and guitar. Also of note is the fact that the band made a serious effort to stay off drugs, red meat and caffeine during the sessions. The result is a very well written, very diverse, very strong... flop. Why did it flop? Not because of the songs, the musicianship, or the production (by Bob Rock). The real reason was the absence of Vince Neil. Vince made Motley a party band, a rebellious band, an unpredictable mix of party time and disaster. Corabi made it into a more serious, more talented band, but he didn't have Vince's craziness, and the fans picked up on that by not buying the CD and not seeing the shows.A shame, really. Musically this CD is heavy (Power To The Music, Hammered, Smoke the Sky), thoughtful (Misunderstood, Driftaway), and yes, sometimes a party (Hooligan's Holiday). Mick Mars is especially good because he is freed up by John's rhythm guitar so he can expand on his solos. Tommy Lee is solid as ever, and Nikki's bass is right there as well. This isn't Shout at the Devil or Theater of Pain, but it's one of the best albums this band has done.

John Corabi, Kicked The Crue Up A Notch!!!
Back in 1994, I purchased this release the day it came out and just last year trackdown the version with bonus tracks. This is my favorite Motley Crue release and the only one in my collection. That's because, I'm pissed at how the band treated John and refuse to listen to the Vince garbage. John Corabi's one of the best lead singers out their and rank him in the same league as Steven Tyler. I recently burned a CD with all my favorite tracks from John's work with the Scream, Motley Crue and Union. The end result is awesome and try it you will see just how talented he is.If you love your metal with a bluesy edge and a vocalist that can sing just about any range. Than you'll wanted to buy this one and you'll love it. The best thing Motley Crue did was hire John and they signed their own death warrent when they fired him. Now I will admit that Mick, Nikki and Tommy had loads of talent. But they lacked a talented Lead Vocalist, to bring out their best. That's just what happened when John took over vocals. Their playing, songwriting, song selection made a 360 degree turn and they rocked. Probably the biggest surprise on this release is Mick Marrs guitar playing. With John playing rhythm guitar. This release, features the best guitar work from Mickand a must have for any guitar fanatic. Also without a doubt the playing of Nikki and Tommy captures them at their best also. My favorite songs on this from first listening to it are: "Power To The Music", "Uncle Jack", "Hooligan's Holiday", "Misundertood", "Loveshine", "Hammered", "Till Death Do Us Part" and "Smoke The Sky". Now after 10 years, I have grown to like everything on the release and like all three of the bonus tracks. To bad both, "Hypnotizied" and "Livin' In The Know" where left off the original release. Either one could have been released as a single to follow up "Hooligan's Holiday". I have always felt that John took Motley Crue to the next level and was bummed that they went back to Vince. It's annoying how all these tracks are left off of all the Greatest Hits packages with John's vocals and that their fans whined about this release so much. But on the same hand the same fans love, "White Kids on Dope". That song is exactly the same style they did with John. The only difference being Vince can't sing that style and with John it never would have been written or released since it's so lame. Just think what Motley Crue's post '94 releases would have sounded like had they kept John around and not fired him in 1996. They most certainly would not have been so lame sounding and talentless as their releases where. Beating the same tired sound too death over and over again. Although the fans would have missed out on three awesome albums from Union and this Crue release. I wonder what would have happen had John flipped the bird to the Crue and just stayed with The Scream. Lastly, a couple of reviews mention that they should rerelease this with Vince doing vocals. To me that would be a sin and the fans would be better served with Motley Crue redoing all their albums with John Corabi doing Vocals. Then we would all see just how bad Vince really is and just how awesome John would make the band sound. If your a huge fan of John Corabi like me. You will wanted to also buy the following with John on vocals: The Scream's- "Let It Scream", with Union(w/Bruce Kulick)- "Self-Titled", "Live In The Galaxy", and "The Blues Room". All are great discs and worth the listen.

Overlooked album
Great album from the crue, when it came out it didn't get any praise due to the replacement of Vince Neil, this album is the Crue`s more darker side of song writing, with the different & more powerful Vocals provided by John Corabi & slower songs & more heavyier style this album is a gem,Power to the music,Misunderstood, welcome to the numb & Smoke the sky are some of the best songs on here but there are more & its definately an album you have to keep an open mind & block out everything else Crue has done & set this as a stand alone record

Pretend This Isn't Motley Crue
Wow! what an album! Is this really Motley Crue? If you put this album on and ask people who it is they wouldn't have a hot clue. In 1992 Vince Neil had left (or been fired) from Motley Crue and they had wandering around looking for a singer. Times were changing, the glam metal had abruptly ended with the massive explosion of the the grunge movement thanks to that one album with that little baby swimming on the cover. Motley Crue was looking to have a tougher edge to compete with some of the going bands of the day. Who did they find? In my opinion, one of the most underrated singers of all time. John Corabi, the former lead singer of The Scream was brought into Crue for their self-titled album. No fluff here. You can't go into this album thinking Motley Crue, just imagine it is a whole different band. The songs are grittier, ballsy, and downright heavy. From the opening tune “Power To The Music” to the downright madness of “Hooligans Holiday”. This is an album I think every person who is “open” to different variations of bands should have. There is no glitz or glamour to these songs. Its straight up heavy rock and roll. It’s very disappointing that this album was a huge flop. Fans that were still around would not accept this album, and it frustrates me because the quality of the music is great. It’s not like these songs are sloppy, confused or even awkward. They supposedly spent over a million dollars making this album with “Dr Feelgood” producer Bob Rock and had to cancel tour dates because people wouldn't accept this masterpiece. I just can’t accept that Motley Crue IS Vince Neil. This album proves that the guys in this band really are good musicians and can write great music that is very diverse, listen to “Misunderstood” if you don’t believe me. Look at Tommy Lee, when you listen to the “Shout At The Devil” album Tommy Lee’s drums almost sound like a drum machine. 11 years later you can truly hear this man is actually a monster on the drums. Overall, this is an album I think everyone can enjoy. Just pretend it is John Corabi with the guys from Motley Crue backing him up.Song HighlightsPower To The MusicUncle JackSmoke The Sky
