simple knife with bottle opener. cork screw has a nice mechanism, and the blade is sharp and practical.

Actually I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this but I did think it'd be a little smaller. Not that it detracts from the quality and purpose of the knife and I've grown to love it very much indeed. What I'm not about to do is mark the item down because of my own notion of what size it would be. Doesn't it bug you when reviewers do that? "Bought these knickers and they're cut way to high for my liking". Eh? Well send them back for a refund you noggin, that's what online shopping's about.Aaaanyway. We wanted something to throw in the pack for use on walks, camping, spring skiing, etc. so that cutting cheese and salami out in the wilds could be undertaken in opulent style and that a bottle of wine could be on hand too. By the way I don't avocate skiing and drinking. That would be bad. So don't. I love Opinel knives and this is a great addition to our set, which includes some of those ultra thin versions that we also take on holidays. I know, it has to go in the hold luggage. How many knives to I have to lose before I remember that? Great bit of kit. If you like these knives you'll love this one. If you don't, well you don't have an Opinel... Hah, I only wrote this review to get that in.

I love Opinel knives. I use them almost daily at work, at home and in the yard. This one is no exception. Good, hefty blade, with a nice, lengthy corkscrew and a good handful of beech wood to pull your cork out. Salut!

This is based on the frame of the No10 Opinel, which means that it has a 10cm, locking, Stainless Steel blade. (it is not available with a non SS blade)Being an Opinel the blade is sharp, nicely finished and the steel used, Sandvik 12c27, is highly regarded, easy to sharpen and keeps an edge for a long time.The lock works well, keeping the blade locked in both the open and the closed positions.The wood is nice and the whole tool has a very pleasant look and feel.The corkscrew opens with some difficulty and is secured in both the open and the closed position by a strong spring mechanism.It works ok but it is huge.The main issue with the whole design is the size. Usually Opinel uses the No8 (8cm blade) for its unusual/quirky models. The No10 used here is too big for easy pocket carry and even assuming the larger blade gives you more versatility at a picnic the corkscrew is unnecessarily thick, large and long. It is larger than most dedicated kitchen corkscrews.This means that it is difficult to insert fully into the cork and at some point it may even start turning the cork as you twist it, instead of going further in the cork, as you would have liked it to.A corkscrew of the size used in e.g. Swiss Army knives would have sufficed and would have made the whole cork extracting process easier, additionally allowing the use of a smaller overall body.

This is all you need for a picnic. you have a cork screw for your bottle of wine a sharp knife to cut your bread, cheese and charcuterie. What more could you want.

A truly outstanding item. Everyone should have one in every picnic basket and camping cook kit. A timeless, durable made-in-France classic. Even without the "lever" component found on many sommelier corkscrews, this classic Opinel design still works reliably AND with the incredible Opinel INOX stainless steel full-size blade built-in as a bonus! The trick to consistent ease of use of the cork screw is: once you have screwed in the corkscrew ~70-80% down begin twisting the cork itself, wedging the screw between your index and middle fingers firmly gripping between the Opinel handle and the top of the cork while pulling slowly but firmly (sometimes it helps to wedge the bottle between your legs and tug in a firm, controlled manner). This "grip, twist and pull" method will ease-out the cork. Same technique to open wine bottles with Swiss Army knives (although I find the larger, ergonomic Opinel beechwood handle to work better). Such a classic design - I highly recommend it.

Ottimo come tutti gli opinel, in più ha un cavatappi che funziona benissimo.

Ich hatte das Teil schon mal vor einiger Zeit, bevor ich es einem lieben Menschen geschenkt habe der entweder nichts zum wurstschneiden oder zum Weinflasche öffnen dabei hatte. Lange Zeit hatte ich ausschließlich „Carbon“ Opinels bis mich der wirklich ausgezeichnete 12c27 Sandvikstahl den die Franzosan hierfür kaufen und verarbeiten, sehr überzeugt hat. Wer mal mit einem frisch abgezogenen solchen Messer gleichermaßen Baguettes, Gemüse und andere teils schlecht schmiedbare picknickspeisen geschnitten hat, wird mir zustimmen.Ich schneide viel in Küche und Garten und weiß gutes Werkzeug zu schätzen. Eine klare Kaufempfehlung.Wem es wirklich zu teuer sein sollte und nur schnitzen auf dem Programm steht, der kann sich immer noch mit dem carbonbruder befassen….
