Good Taste, Idea Was For Slim Son To Gain Weight But Got Extreme Diarrhea & Lost Weight (Update)
My college age son is quite slim and has a difficult time eating enough calories to gain weight. It’s partly genetics and partly due to numerous food allergies and intolerances. He eats a clean and simple diet that doesn’t include those extra calories a lot of us get from nuts, cheese, sauces, butter and so on.I bought the Soylent variety pack so he could see what flavors he likes and hopefully add one a day to his regular diet, rather than drink one as a meal replacement. At 400 calories a day, I figure that’s about 2800 calories a week and in theory he could gain about 10 pounds in a few months. He loves the texture and taste. In order, he likes chocolate mint, banana, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. I’m sure he’d love the Cafe Mocha, but it’s high in caffeine for him with 150 mg as he’s not a caffeine drinker. The other chocolate flavors have about 10 mg naturally occurring caffeine, and no caffeine is added to the other flavors in the variety pack.He has digestion issues and hasn’t had an issue with Soylent. He enjoys these and wants more. While he likes the variety pack, the Cafe Mocha goes unused since it’s too much caffeine for him. (I’m sure it would be my favorite but soy doesn’t agree with me). Next time, I’ll likely order one box each of Chocolate Mint and Banana.Of course I wish my son would just eat more calories through healthy snacks, but that just isn’t working for him. I don’t love all the ingredients or understand all the add supplements, but I like that these are plant based, dairy and nut free, and have 20 grams of protein. These seem like a reasonable way to increase his calories, and he really enjoys them. 5 stars.8/8/2021: WARNING: This pack agreed well with my son, so I bought him a case of banana and one of chocolate mint. The idea was to drink it as an addition to his diet, but he started substituting it for meals. While we didn’t connect the issue at first, he started having extreme diarrhea. I’m talking 8 times a day. It was awful. He does already have sensitivities and like likely IBS D but needs further testing to confirm, but at most he would get a bout or two of diarrhea on a bad day. He logged his food, we wracked our brains, etc. and then the lightbulb went on.It’s the Soylent that caused the exacerbation. He stopped the Soylent and still has issues, but at most has a problem 1x or 2x a day. He’s very thin and he lost 12 pounds in a couple months and the goal was to gain weight. I googled the issue and I had no idea but it turns out this is the subject of many threads on a mainstream site that starts with an R. I’m not saying everyone will have this issue, but please pay close attention as my son was on a very unhealthy downward spiral. I’m downgrading my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars. While I’m tempted to rate it 1 star, it tastes good, he has a sensitive system (though soy has never been an issue) and the weight loss result may be desirable to others.

Sample some Soylent flavors before buying cases of them
The original has improved dramatically since the early metal bottles which tasted much like pancake batter. These came later and I can describe them as dessert flavors. It's nice to rotate one of these along with drinking the originals as a treat or to mix it up.Flavors as follows: Strawberry is like Neapolitan ice cream. Vanilla is like French vanilla ice cream. Banana is like those banana flavored hard candies. Chocolate tastes like chocolate milk and Mocha is much like a powdered hot chocolate mocha flavor. I don't care for the mint at all, just not my thing.Alas, two flavors I really enjoy are not part of this pack- Chai is my favorite, and the other coffee they make is nice. It is really too bad these aren't here. Maybe if they did an 8 pack or some such other 12 pack with all the flavors? I'd buy it!Otherwise, worth it to give this a try. As with any shake or smoothie they're intended to be enjoyed more slowly. Sure You can gulp them down but sipping (even big sips) is more fun, just saying.I've since subscribed to Soylent and get them regularly from Amazon. Yes it's a few dollars more than their own website to subscribe, but Soylent's direct shipping is otherwise too slow for me.Hope this review helps!

It's good but I am not trying that green one
Jokes aside, soylent tastes unexpectedly normal. I've tried a couple of different meal replacements before, so I was genuinely surprised by the actual flavor. Normally, those shakes/powders have an earthy quality to them that can be a bit overpowering and get rather unpalatable very easily -- even when they don't taste bad per se. But it doesn't seem to be the case with soylent. What was also surprising about the taste is that it is soy-based. Maybe I've had bad experiences with soy-milk and such, but I generally HATE soy-milk and soy-based beverages. This has no trace of the godawful taste I was half-expecting. It's also not sickeningly sweet and has no artificial sweeteners or stevia -- which ruin most of the meal replacements out there for me. Overall, I can't say it's the tastiest shake ever. It tastes pretty average, but just in general terms. Compared to other meal replacements, it's very good. The vanilla is a bit too much for me though. The taste resembles vanilla custard a little, less eggy though. It's not bad. It's just a bit too much for something I'd be drinking at a time when I would normally have a savory meal.

Great flavors, but too high priced...
Tastes wonderful, but too expensive. Have also read Canada dropped brand because they didn't agree they were meal replacements.Didn't like the coffee flavored one and haven't tried the chocolate mint yet, but the milk chocolate, banana, and strawberry were all delicious. The vanilla was ok, but it took a couple of sips for me to like the taste. This company needs some incentive discounts for repeat orders. $25 for 6 bottles is too steep for repeat business for me.

Great sampler
From the perspective of being a sample pack this is great, I am a huge fan of soylent so being able to taste all of the flavors to know which to buy in the future was a great opportunity. That being said, the pricing is a little ridiculous and therefore I didn't think this was a 5 star product.

Great flavors except the coffee one!!
I loved them, so far except the coffee one whewww chile it was bad, I tried and I just could not even finish more than 3 sips of it. All of the others were pretty good, even the banana one which I like bananas but not normally a fan of banana flavored things.

Good liquid diet.
I was put on a partial liquid / soft food diet after some oral surgery and really needed a good liquid meal option. I went to the pharmacy and box stores to try other premade shakes and most of them were either really yucky or super low calorie. A friend recommended Soylent and I’m so happy I tried them. They’re filling and taste great. Definitely not a diet shake but it’s keeping me alive and happy with enough energy to get through the day until I can go back to salads and soup dumplings.
