Super-budget reissue of some Shaw/Atlanta recordings of choral masterpieces
Super budget price and you get what you pay for. There is no booklet. All the disc info is on the sleeves. Artlessly the two reissues that originally were double-albums are both labelled Disc 1 & Disc 2, so you have two each of those. The conductor's name is likewise repeated on the box front cover: 'Classic Robert Shaw', featuring, good heavens! Who would have guessed it? 'Robert Shaw'! Composers names are relegated to the back.Back of the box mentions only the biggies, but the box also contains Boito's Prologue to Mefistofele, and Verdi's Te Deum. The Dvorak Stabat Mater concludes with a conversation track, Shaw in discussion about the work. No amount of talk can save this piece from being tedious Victoriana. Early days but so far I'm bored by the Dvorak and underwhelmed by the Janacek (no match for Kubelik).I bought this because it was cheap, under £7 all in, and because I heard a bit of another Shaw production and was impressed by the sound quality, a good strong bassline from the orchestra. Whether this will earn a lasting place in my collection, I don't know, but one can't argue with the price.

Classic Robert Shaw has not many sides of Classic; it is choir and church music only.
No information on the article so it was a litle bit of a gamble.Still it would be nice to give pictures from the box with the info from what music is on the 6 cd's.I found it all a little too many with church music only. The requim of Berlioz was already on my shelve and would not have bought it when I had this info.
