Q: Could these be good to mount something small in a car? Like to the plastic interior paneling?

Possibly. I used mine in our camper that had kind of press board paneling that allow the cleats to sink in. Depending the paneling in your car, you might have to drill some small pilot holes for the cleats so the plastic doesn't crack or maybe try using a heat gun on a low setting to soften up the paneling and see how that works. Try it on rear deck lid or spare tire jack cover, somewhere, where you can test it out and if doesn't work, it won't be an eye sore.

No, there are 18. Still pricey for what they are, especially since they break when you tighten them.

Q: Will these work in a metal hollow core door?

For any hard surfaces (metal, plastic) it is necessary to drill two small holes for the points. Drill the center hole to allow the anchor to spring into position. Then mark where the sharp points strike the surface. Remove the anchor and drill those (1/16") to prevent the anchor from rotating as you tighten the screw. You'll feel the anchor arms compress against the inside. Remove the screw and fasten whatever to the threaded insert. The standard screw has a 6-32 thread, in case a longer screw is needed. Install the anchor first, then attach to it, don't try to insert the anchor through the item to be fastened.
