LolliBeads (TM) 3 mm Genuine Round Leather Cord Braiding String Light Brown 5 Meters (5 Yards)

MILDEWED DUE TO PACKAGING.
First, the lace I got was NOT a bunch of scraps glued together, but a single strip of rawhide. If you are expecting a strong pair of work boot laces, forget it. Get a pair of heavy duty laces. This item is perfect for hanging pendants and for other light duty jewelry and decorative uses. Or would be if it didn't stink. And no, airing it out won't help. The smell is mildew. Unfortunately, the manufacturer chose to package and ship this in an airtight plastic bag. Leather, at least supple leather, has a high moisture content, and needs to breathe. Knifemakers know to never store a blade in a sheath, because the knife will rtust and pit due to the sheath exuding moisture. You shouldn't even store the knife and sheath in the same drawer or case. Bottom line? Nice light duty leather lace. Disatsrous choice of packaging and shipping. I have soaked the piece in a solution of alchohol and water and hung it up to dry. We'll see if that helps.Update: lace dried, odor gone, just smells like leather now. I used warm water, some hand cleaner, and mouthwash mixed together to kill the mildew.

Snaps and breaks easily
I purchased this a while back, maybe a year ago, but I felt like leaving a review now.I wear CDBs (Clarks), and I wanted a leather shoe lace in-case my current leather shoe laces broke. The CDB boots don't come with leather shoe laces as those who have them knows, so I purchased another brand for the first time around. When one of my old leather shoe laces broke, in span of ONE month, I broke 4 pieces of this crappy LolliBeads leather strip.I cut my LolliBeads leather strip into 5 equal pieces of shoe laces, and I am currently on the last one. Here's an image of my shoes. The left show has the LolliBeads shoe lace (last piece) which I'm 90% sure will break in the next week or so.This is a really BAD shoe lace product. Don't buy. It snaps simply by tying your shoe. Compared to the one on the right boot, it's been there for over a year now.

Much larger than expected.
I guess I didn't really realize how big 3mm is. These are a lot bigger than what I bought them for.and for that reason I can't comment on their sturdinesss or durability.I was going to return them, but I thought maybe I would just keep them to use for future costumes or craft projects.I went back and reordered the 1.5 mm from the same company because the shipping was fast and it does look like a good quality product. Besides the smaller one was a little bit cheaper than the larger one.The value is okay for the money.

It has become softer and smelled better, and its color became darker than before
I washed it with a mixture of Listerine and hydrogen peroxide, then dipped it into 70% isopropyl alcohol for hours. Hopefully, this procedure will weaken the “glue” if there is any. I only need a couple of feet, so, I want to break it from the glued part. I stretched it forcefully, scratched it with my nail, but I did not find glued part at this strip cord. It is one piece. I dried it, then, dipped it into Johnson’s baby oil for an hour, then dried it. It has become softer and smelled better, and its color became darker than before. I used it to fix my notebook and tied my flint. It works well for that purpose.

It is what it is - USELESS NEAR MOISTURE OR SWEAT
Well, it IS leather cord.I discovered that the dye is HORRIBLE.I was going to lace a cheek piece to the buttstock of my rifle. I wanted it to stay extra tight, so I decided to wet the leather cord, lace it up, and then let it tighten extra-well as it dried. The SECOND this stuff barely touched water, dye ran like it came straight from an ink bottle. I'm glad I found out BEFORE this thing ruined my rifle finish. And the dye didn't just run a little and stop - I've been rinsing it over and over again for the last 20 minutes and it is still running black.THIS PRODUCT IS USELESS NEAR MOISTURE OF ANY KIND. That means no shoe or boot laces (unless you want to track black ink blots everywhere you step after the rain), no necklaces or jewelry (unless you want a black neck every time you sweat even slightly) no rifle cheekpad lacing (unless you want to ruin your finish and have black cheeks). Frankly, I can't think of many uses for this cord if it turns everything it touches into an inkblot.I recommend finding a better brand.

Not sure exactly what I was expecting ..
..but this isn't it. I purchased the 'light brown - round'. Little resemblance to the picture. This is more reddish/pink with a sheen to it that looks for all the world like plastic coated electrical wire. I had to look more closely to make certain that it was not plastic. And stiff for days. Bought to use as shoe laces and it failed on appearance and applicability to that purpose. Really not sure what this could be used for as it is so stiff it is difficult to tie into a simple knot that will hold. My initial thought was to go with the natural 'square' rawhide look and I'm sure I would have been happier. My mistake on that point. The good news is .. it's inexpensive .. so I'm not out much.

Broke when used as shoelace...boat shoes, vintage boots, etc
Didn't cost a huge amount, but broke with a very moderate pull. Broke at a very light pull which was significantly less than usual for a textile lace.If you need function, go with something else. I bought these to lace up vintage waxed split leather boots (prison boot style) so the look is important. If you want the look, I think they will be OK, but don't expect to cinch them up really tight.Fortunately, even though the lace broke, there was enough in the package to make another.I would conditionally recommend these. As long as you don't expect top notch tensile strength, there's a good chance the product will work for you. If you need super strong...pass.

Dyed Leather Color is Paper Thin!?!? Easily Damaged !! Good Reviews, why?
I purchased this to make a nice Kumihimo Bracelet for a male friend. I purchased black and made the bracelet with macho dragon head clasp. When I was putting the leather into the end caps / clasp, of course there was some friction. The black color came right off only to show the natural color underneath!! This is going to happen with a bracelet no matter what! I was so embarrassed that I had to give it to him with a black Sharpie to paint it over anytime the black dye lather came off. This would be true for a necklace with a charm. This is a terrible product.I don't know what to do with the leather I have left. How can I use something what is so easily damaged?

Maybe Not Strong Enough For Boot Laces
Purchased a 5m length for use as laces for some leather boots. They look the business but I suffered the 1st snapped lace within a month of daily use. I could have probably extended their life by being less brutal when tightening them up - I think the friction between the lace and the eyelets in the boot didn't help things - if I were more gentle, tightening the one eyelet at a time.I haven't marked the product down as they were not advertised as laces to be fair. They look good but probably not a good choice for boot laces. 5m is enough for two pairs of laces for 6-eyelet boots so I still have the 2nd pair to use. I'm being careful with these.

Good but not exactly what I expected.
Product looks good and exactly what I expected. However the description has the length as 5 yards, so I was expecting one, continuous piece of material. It shipped in pre-cut lengths. This was fine for what I needed it for but wasn’t what I expected.Delivery was very slow but the packaging was good enough.

Very good item
I do living history/full contact armour fighting. Some swords we use needed the leather replacing on the handles. This was an excellent replacement wrap and feels good in the hand

Seems strong, looks great, does the job
Nice product, looks good, seems sturdy enough. If it endures it goes up to five stars, if it breaks it goes down ...I got it to repair a broken leather rucksack (replaced the fixings with grommet+leather cord). The rest is currently doing a good job keeping the duster handle holding up my zoom background attached to my roof prop.

Plenty of strength.
I am using it for Viking horn holders and this is ideal because you do not have to worry about pulling it to hard to make sure the horn is secure because it has a lot of strength to not snap.
