This is an agreeable entertainment juvenile romp well written by Jeffrey Bloom . The movie displays in grandiose style noisy action, swashbuckler, heroism , swordplay , slapdash , overwhelming fights, fist-play and humor with tongue in cheek . This release has some nice and even hilarious moments here and there , though isn't always interesting , sometimes is diverting and fresh and on a couple of sympathetic occasions is frankly delicious . Robert Shaw is cool as the pirate hero who finds dangerous situations while trying rob the shipment and save damsel in distress . This adventure movie with a high budget of multi-million of dollars packs breathtaking places , sea-fight and amusing plot . It's enriched by colorful cinematography reflecting spectacularly sea beaches by cameraman Philip Lathtrop filmed in location in Puerta Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico and Singapore Lake, Backlot, Universal Studios, Universal City Plaza, California . Furthermore , lively and impressive musical score by John Addison . The motion picture is well directed by James Golstone ( Roller-coaster , When time ran out ). This standard and entertaining 7o's swashbuckling that combines with certain gusto all staples of the genre to be liked for Robert Shaw and Genevieve Bujold fans.

Like Treasure Island and Jaws mixed in together.What could go wrong?Hero Pirate takes on the established rich military heads who imprison and hang people and save them.No wonder the Illuminati wanted him dead, this might be the best film ever made!

pirate films are best on home cinema
as the first reviewer said,all these pirate films from the 70`s,80`s and 90`s,have far from set the cinema going public alight,but on your own home cinema they may find a new audience.Try the new copy of Cutthroat island on blu ray,this is fantastic in the sound department with brand new 7.1 HD master audio channel.As for this one,I actually think this region 1 copy is best a very good widescreen version and great colour,ok only 2 track mono sound,the extras don`t do it for me on any disc.But for easy entertainment all these movie`s including Tommy lee jones`s 1983 SAVAGE ISLANDS are worth the sit at home.

Childhood memory
Saw this film on to as a child and thought it great fun. Eventually realised that I could purchase it. Not quite as good as I remember but still pleased that I could relive my youth!

Sí, vale, la película no es de oscar (aunque tal y como está Hollywood desde hace unos años, eso es lo de menos) pero si te gusta el género, te gustará esta película, sin sorpresas, clara y concisa, va a lo que va, a entretener, y vaya si lo consigue, con un descarado y magistral Robert Shaw en un registro sorprendente por su tipo de papeles habituales, pero no por su capacidad, le sienta el papel como anillo al dedo.Cabe destacar también la fabulosa partitura de John Addison, para una buena tarde cine.
