Book Wasn't New
I'm all for recycling books, but if a book says it's new I expect a new book. The copy I received had red ink written next to one of the recipes, figuring points for that particular recipe. I'm keeping the book, looks like it has good recipes, was just kinda surprised to find someone else had written in it.

Great range of dishes so you won't get bored with healthy cooking.
I actually know Anna. She is the nutritionist at my office cafe (yeah one of those large tech companies cafes) I interact with her a lot because of some of the stuff I do and when she found out I was dealing with high blood pressure she offered to give me counsel. I had already altered my diet and started exercising more but she had a lot of great insight to things that I could do on top. She then told me about this book as an option for some of my cooking recipes so I purchased it. I'm very pleased with the range of recipes and the fact it's not just "boring health food". It is kind of funny that I already was making things like General Tsoa Chicken and thinking theres no way I can make this super healthy but one of the dishes in the book is orange chicken! One of my favorite americanized asian dishes. I look forward to trying many of the items in the book as I continue to cook at home and experiment with a healthy palate.

many recipes have too much salt
The recipes seem to have a weight loss focus, not a DASH (low sodium) focus. And the inclusion of salt seems so unnecessary. By that I mean some foods are difficult to find without salt but for most others, it would be so easy for the book to have pointed out where cuts in salt could easily be made. Frequently the recipes just call out an amount of salt and that's pretty easy to skip. At other times, the salt is in the can of beans, the container of broth, or cheese etc; those are the places we could use help in making reductions. Also the authors don't appear to have made a full meal plan with their recipes for there's a subtlety which arises when one does that. There are many examples but take "Stuffed Bell Peppers": 443 cal, 988mg sodium. The 988 doesn't by itself exceed the DASH limit but, to get to even a 2000 calorie diet, you'd have to have 4.5 servings (4.5 x 443=2000) of this meal and that comes with 4400mg (= 4.5 x 988) of sodium! Selecting this meal for dinner means you'd have to be extra careful on other choices during the day. The proportion of calories to sodium therefore matters. On the good side, the recipes all contain a Nutrition Facts listing; a lot of online recipes don't bother. And I believe the book's recipes are solid except for salt.

Mini Banana Vegan Muffins are the best!!!
The Dash Diet Cookbook is very easy to read and understand when cooking and baking. I fell in love with the Mini Banana Vegan Muffins and I enjoy baking them for friends and family. There are a wide variety of recipes and I look forward to going down the list of things to make! I've already purchased this book for a friend and my mother. I'm also heading out to ship it to a friend who is in the Marines and his wife is newly pregnant, he is looking to lose weight and get in shape and of course with her having to eat for two, I think the healthy recipes in here could benefit them both! Losing weight takes time and a lot of effort but 80% of your weight loss is from changing your portions and bad eating habits. You might see some items that have higher fat/sodium/sugar but you should check the portion size you will be making for yourself and track all your calories! I've already lost almost 20 pounds in the last 2 months due to just changing what and how I am eating. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a healthier lifestyle with food that has great taste to it!

DASH delivered in a DASH!
I haven't had a chance to read it yet, only a few pages. Diet type books are not usually considered to be white knuckle page turners and this is no exception, but it gave me some great food type of pointers right up front that really put me in the receptive mood to follow this DASH diet. The price was great and it is loaded with lots of recipes that look like they will be say to follow,no outlandish exotic foods or ingredients like a lot of these type of books push. The amazing thing was I ordered this book on Sat Nov 1 with delivery to be on Monday Nov 3, but I received it on Sunday Nov 2, delivered by a USPS worker driving a nice white sedan. I couldn't believe that, seems crazy but that's Jeff's new contract with the USPS!

High in Sodium
The DASH Diet is a super diet, and I have been having great results with it since the beginning of the year. The only thing I have missed is having a great, fun and interesting cookbook to go with it. Both of the books that I have on hand were written by doctors and researchers, so great, fun and interesting don't apply. Well, this book was also long on doctors as authors and short on great, fun and interesting. That is not to say that there aren't some good, tasty dishes here, because there are. Fun, great, interesting? No. Other than missing those little things, my concern is the sodium content of a lot of the recipes. Being over 65, with a history of heart disease and hypertension, my doctor set goal is less than 1500 mg of sodium per day. A lot of the recipes in this book are prescriptions to blow that goal away. I will continue to look for a great, fun and interesting book to keep the diet from becoming boring. Maybe the upcoming "DASH Diet Cookbook for Dummies" will be closer to the mark. Who knows? I will probably get my hands on a copy and look at it before I spring for it.

Not What I expected for a CookBook
After waiting for this cookbook to arrive, I was very dissappointed in the overall looks of the book and no pictures. NOT IMPRESSED with the fact that they had calorie counting as to how many servings on a 1200 or 2000 calorie diet, also, the first recipe I wanted to try had a VERY high sodium acmount in the serving, as I had boughten Lowering Blood Pressure by Readers Digest and have been enjoying that cookbook,, this one started off a complete dissappointment and should have returned it, it sits on a shelf. My blood pressure is in normal ranges using the Readers Digest Cookbook. On the up side, the dressing and glazes in this cookbook seem to be tasteful, but nothing else took my fancy. So, if you want knowledge on the Dash Diet buy "The Dash Diet" by Thomas Moore, MD, it also talks about calorie counting but the information in this book is very informing and for the best recipes that your whole family will enjoy buy "East To Beat High Blood Pressure" by Readers Digest

Good, but a little bit misleading?
This is a no-frills cookbook with some good information. If you're looking for a nudge towards establishing a healthy low salt diet, however, this might not be the first book to start with. We've been working towards an entirely DASH diet in our household for about 1 year, and after having great success with Sandra Nowlan's cookbooks, we thought we would branch out and try some other authors, so we gave this one a try--it was a good price, and the page count suggested it would be chock-full of recipes (which it is, although it's very straight forward, with easy to read text and no photos). While this cookbook had some great recipes (for breakfast especially, if you're new to the idea of tasty, healthy and filling shakes, as I was) and some useful ideas for lunch, I was a bit surprised at the sodium content of many of the recipes. I find I use Nowlan's books much more often.
