Perfect for repairs to fir deck
I had struggled for many years hammering stainless steel finish nails when making repairs to my fir deck. This time, due to replacement of almost 20% of the surface of my 450 sf. deck, I decided to invest in a nail gun and after significant research I ended up selecting this one. Although I had no previous experience with a pneumatic gun, I was able to operate the tool correctly after only a few tries. I'm happy with the repeat performance that sets >95% of the nails seated just right. I found the tool to be a little on the heavy side for my liking, but again I don't have another to compare it to. Overall I feel this tool is at a sweet spot of price, performance and features and I would recommend it to others.

Works very well
We just did about 50 pickets on a fence repair. Didn't want to spend a ton on nailer. Then again did not want to buy junk. This one actually really worked out well for us. Had a few double shots here and there. Think that was pretty much user error. My helper is only one that had that problem I don't have it at all. With the right compressor shoots just fine. Only thing I don't like is a plastic housing for the nails. I feel like if I end up getting more fence repairs I'll end up breaking that. Then again when that happens it happens and I'll upgrade. For now I'd say buy the darn thing start making money.

Workday well
Worked very well. Did have a couple double taps but as long as I lubed it every 100 planks or so, it ran great. I think that most of the double taps were from me not pushing firmly to the picket. All and all, saved a ton of time and easly worth the price.

Great Gun for the Price
Great siding gun for the price. In the past, i did a lot of siding, worked for a few companies, usually always using the higher end guns (Makita, $400-$500). But always had problems with the higher end ones, given, they were worked a lot harder & older, but would double fire, or nail would get stuck, which seemed to always happen when it was 102 degrees out and on a 30' ladder.Anyway, I just do projects here and there now, so didn't need a real high dollar gun, so ordered this with a box of the Freeman 2 inch coil nails.Have only had a chance to do one job, but it worked flawlessly, not a single problem, it almost seemed strange to do an entire job without having some sort of problem with the nail gun, but this one just flat out worked. We'll see how it's doin in a year, and after a lil more abuse, but for the money, seems to be a good gun.***UPDATE 09/27/17**** Have put a little under a case of nails through this gun, oiled before every use, and now it's leaking air terribly, all my research leads me to that there is an O-ring (or O-rings) going bad. So now I have to Order a $35 kit, and hopefully I can get this gun taken apart and O-rings replaced, and hopefully that fixes the problem. Concerning that I haven't even been through a case/box of nails and this gun is out of service.Hoping I don't end up kicking myself for not buying a higher quality gun.***UPDATE 02/10/18***Ordered the O-ring kit, and started taking apart the gun, there was a large square ring on the back of the gun that had come loose and not seated properly. I lubed and adjusted it in back into position, and just like that, the gun started working again. I have to admit, i wasn't oiling it before every use. Since then, I bought some Marvel Mystery Oil for air tools, and have been using it religiously, and haven't had a single problem since. Just ordered another case of nails, Hitachi this time, as the Freeman seem to leave a lot of wire with the nails on the siding. Overall, i'm happy with the Siding Gun.Update 01/31/2019One last update. These guns are way underrated. I am still using the same gun I bought a few years ago. I have a PT Siding company, and I use probably 5-7 cases of nails a year(think there's roughly 2400 nails per case). My original gun is still firing away, and I have since bought another for a back-up for when/if my original craps out. So my honest opinion is this gun is a great buy, it takes a beating day in and day out for about 6-8 months out of the year, and i'm not easy on it. I highly recommend this gun for siding.

Useless
This nailer is absolutely useless.First of all, it drives about a quarter to a half of the nails incorrectly. They're always bending over like there's something mis-aligned with the striking hammer. I rented a Metabo that drove all the nails perfectly, so I'm confident it's a problem with the Freeman gun.Second, the first time I used it the little ball bearing that acts as a detent for the trigger lock was jammed and then came out. So now i've got this floppy trigger lock that doesn't work right.I made the mistake of ordering it more than a month before I needed it, so now Amazon and Freeman won't accept my return or offer any support.

Good value, it works fine if you do this.....
Lots of reviews here talk about double firing. I too experienced this at first. I ran this from a small cylindrical compressor. Initially, double fires were horrible, but as I read the instructions, it became apparent that there is only one way to use this gun; hold the trigger down, align where you want it and bump fire. I nailed 90 8"x12' Hardie planks this way without one double fire. That's over 1000 nails. Now, was every nail driven perfect and flush? No. some might be sticking up by 1/32 or and 1/8, but most were nice and flush. Considering the cost, this is a good tool if used correctly. I am a DIYer, and this was my first use of this type of gun. Not critical of other reviews, I just stumbled on a way to make this gun work, maybe exactly the way it was designed.

Works great for me. Great value
For the money you can't go wrong. I've put 1000 nails through it with no issues.

Worth every penny!
This is my first nail gun and a bit doubting its quality because it is cheaper than most brands. Like most new tools you need to get use to it and get the feel how it works. After using it on my shed project this nail gun is worth every penny I paid for it. It functioned perfectly and never jammed. Of course it will double fire occasionally but it is not the guns fault it is how you react to it’s natural recoil specially if you are firing it in an awkward position. A must have tool for handyman like me

Muchos Clavos No Entran Completamente, y Solo Tiene la función de disparo múltiple
El precio me Agradó pero NO clava a fondo la Mayoría de los clavos ni que no traiga la función de disparar un clavo a la vez

Value for money
Did the job well with a minimum of fuss and if used correctly did not jam or double nail. I used the advice from another review and used the pull trigger first then bump routine and it worked well. In limited use but under time constraints it was reliable and far less expensive than even renting would have been.

Good Gun with Great Service!
*** My letter to info@freemantools.com ***I recently purchased a Freeman PCN65 siding nailer like the one featured here from Amazon.ca. Please see receipt attached.[...]I had inquired summer of 2013 with Freemantools.com trying to purchase this nailer, but it was not yet available in Canada. I did inquire as to if I purchased the nailer, if Freemantools would honour the warranty; the rep. said they would. However, sending it across the US/Canada border, with duty charges and having to send it back across if any warranty action was required, was not practical at that time and opted not to procure the nailer from the USA. Recently, (Feb2014) however, and to my delight, I saw that availability in Canada has changed, so I purchased this tool from Amazon.ca right away! The tool in arrived in good order and worker superbly for two coils of 2.5” nails….for strapping a ceiling. Then it started only shooting one nail and not advancing the next nail properly. After some frustration and disappointment with this being a newly purchased tool, I tried to visually identify the problem. The problem is clearly the spring loaded nail locking mechanisms (pointed dogs) which are supposed to retract to allow the next nail to advance over the dogs, then hold the nail firmly in place before firing. See pictures attached. There are two stationary dogs, one upper and one lower; the upper dog is causing the problem. After firing, the dog rises too far out of its slot and jambs the forward tab on the dog on the front face of the slotted hole which prevents any nail advancement. I can easily push the dog back into place and the gun works like it should. However, after firing the readied nail, the dog again rises out of its slot and the jamb reoccurs. It appears to me that either the slotted holes are manufactured to be too elongated or the tab on the dogs keeping the dog into the slot aren’t manufactured long enough. I also see that there is a rod with two springs on either end which act as the pivots for these dogs. Perhaps the pivot holes on the dogs are too large, or perhaps the diameter of the rod is too small. Whatever the problem is, the dogs do not stay in their slots like they are supposed to.1. Is there an adjustment procedure for these feeder mechanisms?2. The manual does not provide any adjustment or cleaning procedures. Are there any published procedures?3. Do you have an authorized repair shop here in Nova Scotia Canada?4. Where is the closest repair shop to Halifax NS?5. Is this a common reported problem with the PCN65 where there might be a modification kit required?I wish to try to solve the problem locally if possible before sending the unit out for repair, if at all possible. For testing:If you were to take the soft end of a writing pen and gently pry on the dog, it easily slips out of the slot duplicating the jamb condition. Incidentally, I just tried the bottom dog (as it’s sitting on my desk) as well and it too slips out quite easily and jambs, even though it didn’t jamb while strapping. Only the top one seemed to do this at the site.*** Prime Global Products Inc.'s response: ***First I want to apologize for the multiple inconveniences you've had to deal with. I apologize that after such a short time frame you're having issues with the PCN65.Let me answer first some of your questions as well as provide a solution for this issue:1) There is no adjustment procedure for the feeder magazine and this is actually the first time I have heard about this issue. I really appreciate the great detail you provided with the pictures. It seems like there must be something wrong with the wire being used as a spring mechanism (it goes between both dogs).2) The only cleaning procedure that should be necessary is the clearing of jams which can be found on page 7.3) We do not have any authorized repairs currently anywhere. Currently we are testing with a few places within the united states to see if we can have them maintain a quality level that would make having authorized repair shops a possibility.4) We wouldn't have any repair shops in Halifax NS specifically, but any place could contact us and purchase parts from us. Your particular issue would be covered under warranty however so there wouldn't be a need to go anywhere.5) There is no modification kit as of yet as this is not a common problem. Hopefully this was a one of occurrence to the gun you had.The only thing I can think of that you would be able to do locally is have the spring replaced although that is not a part we stock (in this particular case we would want to send you a new gun and get that one back so we could more closely look at it and try to determine what would have caused the spring to push the dog so far up through the slit)If you're ready for us to send you a replacement gun, please send me your address and I will get the gun shipped out ASAP and will send a return shipping label so you can send the defective gun back for us to examine.I wasn't able to previously able to duplicate what you had said except for when I tried following your instructions just now on how to duplicate. I was able to duplicate the issue that way although normally it was hard to make happen and I'd be curious as to why it is happening so frequently for you. I think our solution in the long run is going to be to make the tang on the dog a little longer or make the slot smaller for the top dog (I was unable to ever duplicate on the bottom dog, was that your experience also?I want to really appreciate everything you've done. I was able to duplicate on a another gun the top dog easily popping up (still this has not been an issue before which leads me to wonder what is causing it to have the force coming from the wrong direction that would cause the dogs to pop up) but still unable to get the bottom one to pop up, even when using significant force. It makes me believe maybe we have a consistency issue with either the slot length or the tang length. I'm going to get this information over to China so they can give me more information as to what the inconsistency is (so I don't have to open a hundred boxes unless I have too!)The replacement gun should be shipped out and even though the top dog still comes out (I've confirmed this seems to be possible on several guns, but has never apparently been an issue) it functions normally. and is not popping out during operation. It makes me believe that there must be something wrong with the feeder on the gun you have and that it must be applying force backwards so that the nail is popping out the dogs. They are indeed 15°.Yes, they are made in China but our advantage over our competitors is we do field testing here in the United States to help identify problem areas as well as work with people in the industry to test our products in the field for performance and durability. I'm surprised this has not occurred before which leads me to believe that possibly the one you are using was not made as well as the others. I believe only our roofing and siding nailer use this method of feeding nails, so it's possible that the dogs are an issue in both guns (however we've not had any complaints with it actually being an issue until now)I'm not 100% sure when the gun will arrive, but they should have a tracking # for me later today that I can send to you.We honestly value our customers. If we somehow miss something after factory testing, our testing, and field testing, we're happy to learn of it and correct the problem (it still takes awhile due to redesigning of molds in china can take them awhile). I'm glad we could impress you with our customer service because that's what we aim to do!We do repair the tools here in the USA (although we are not a "full" repair facility so if the tool is beyond our ability to repair such as the body being broken we will scrap it)There is a parts breakdown of each gun (not all parts are labeled though, only parts that we have "kits" available are listed at the bottom of every parts breakdown). The parts breakdown for all freeman tools can be found at www.freemantools.com and then under the specific page for each tool are orange links. One is for the manual, one is for the parts breakdown.Trevor York | IT Manager | Prime Global Products, Inc.2220 Airport Industrial Dr. Suite 100 | Ball Ground, GA 30107770.783.1454 Office | 678.623.5966 Faxtrevor@primeglobalproducts | [...] | [...]*** My reponse:***No problem, I’ll send the other one back so you can determine why this happens. I still have the orig. product box. It’s a very nice gun and sought to get one for a while now…it’s nice and light and built well. The little things for instance, air nozzle dust cap, framing clamp, trigger lock, directional exhaust, oil, extra marring bumper on board and depth adjustment knob. For instance, I bought a Bostitch air spiker and it didn’t come with anything! Had to buy the air fitting separately, no trigger lock, no marring bumper. I did however come with a kit to convert it over to sequence nailing only bump nailing disabled). It came configured for bump nailing. The customer service is exemplary and response for warranty action is amazing…I was worried that this was going to be a fight where I have to pay for a broken nail gun.*** My review: ***The gun worked perfectly before it jammed. It's lightweight and worked well when it worked for me.I was very impressed with the service on this issue and even though the unit seems to have a problem, the unit has a 7 yr manuf'rs warranty which is being honoured by Prime Global Products. I emailed them at noon and 2.5 hours later I was in dialog with a representative. *** Great service from PGP!! *** Anyone who reads this review with questions can email Tom at smile2nd@gmail.com
