In my household, we eat a lot of rice. We favor basmati rice, but we’ve also grown to like quite a few other varieties. Therefore, we always up for trying something different in the species. His short grain rice with its darker color seemed intriguing. When I washed it, I was surprised at how Dark pink, the water was becoming. At first, I was thinking I might be washing off some seasoning, but I was assured that this rice was pure. I cooked it with regular settings in my rice cooker, and the smell and duration of cooking had me suspicious that this was quite close to a brown rice. Sure enough the taste is right there, but it might be just a little more mild than your average brown rice. I checked, and the glycemic index is quite favorable with this rice, which is what one would expect from brown rice. It does have an interesting fragrance and mildly distinct flavor, but I ate it with various accompanying dishes and it was compatible with all. I’m sure there are some culinary experts out there who could advise me on better dishes parent with. In short, I can say that I am quite pleased with this order and I look forward to eating this rice again soon.

I prepared the entire bag of this Neotea Organic Kerala Matta Rice at once (five cups dry) in my Instant Pot after briefly soaking and rinsing it. I followed the directions to add 3-4 cups of water per one cup of rice, but that was too much water for pressure cooking it and I had some standing water once it was done. Because of adding so much water, I’m also not sure if I got the texture quite right as it was a soft rice. But, nevertheless, our whole family loved it. It seemed like a cross between a white rice and brown rice, and had a very good flavor. We ate it with a leftover fusion night of a variety of foods including a tofu dish, a cabbage dish, a curry, and a pickled Japanese salad, and this rice went well with everything.

Excellent product. It tastes so good with sambar and fish curry. Truly yum 😋😋
