Fire Punch, Vol. 1 (1)

Not for the faint of heart.
Fire Punch follows the story of a revenge seeking Agni, as he wanders a vast snowy wasteland in search of a man named Doma, who ruined Agni's life (can't really get into details without spoiling anything). As you probably have seen from some of the more.... critical reviews that there are some truly disturbing, taboo, and dark elements to this story. I agree that these moments are numerous and at times really off-putting when trying to read through. But beyond that, you have a really fantastic dystopian revenge story with great art that is hard to put down (once you manage to stomach some of the content). It's like watching a trainwreck. It's gruesome and awful, makes you question what went wrong with humanity, but you can't stop looking. I would highly recommend searching for preview chapters before buying to see if this is something you'd be interested in. All in all it was an interesting read and I look forward to future volumes.

Compelling story that is ridiculously bloody and over the top with adult themes.
I found the art to be amazing and a cut above most other series. The setting takes place on a recently ice-aged earth where most of the surviving populace has either taken to banditry, or en-mass congregate in cults with insane ritualistic ideologies based on victimizing the so called "blessed". The action scenes are insane and fascinatingly gritty. The landscape is barren but the author makes the frozen wasteland look absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Forewarned, there is murder, mutilations and unsubtle attempts of rape by various antagonists in this story. The pacing is fast and almost entirely linear. A definite read for any serious mature manga reader.

Shocking yet compelling 🔥👊
You'd think years of reading Berserk, Golden Kamuy and 'the Road' would've prepared me for the unique hell on earth the main character faces every minute of every day. But here we are. Despite muscling my way past the bleakest subject matter, it's an utterly fascinating read. I love all the allegory and how Agni turns his horrible situation into his own strength 💪

Squicky Dystopian Superhuman Revenge Quest
Set sometime in the future where "blessed" (people with specific powers) exist. A blessed triggered a global freeze leading to a starving dystopia. The violence, sex, and just plain crappy people remind me of a Garth Ennis work, but the black and white artwork and lack of fetishized gratuity of it render it more palatable. The story follows a man with regenerative powers who has permanently set on fire and is on a quest for revenge. The only explicit scenes involve blood and gore, but there's talk, implication, or depictions of cannibalism, incest, slavery, children being tortured/murdered, sex trafficking, bestiality, pedophilia, rape... I think I got it all. There's a possibly mentally challenged trap child I think was introduced just to get tortured for kinks, that whole "break the cutie" thing. It feels like it should have been called "Gut Punch" and I really didn't expect this coming from Chainsaw Man.Despite the paraphilia and cringe, I found Agni (the MC) oddly compelling (he gives me Guts from Berserk vibes) and wanted to see more of the world building... but maybe with fewer awful people. It almost gives dark comedy vibes how crappy the people are (I did mention Garth Ennis). I'm leaning towards 2.5 stars because I found it interesting despite the squick factor and am rounding up because it wasn't graphic or fetishized in its depictions.

Mature Audiences Only
This book has beautiful art and the story has classic tropes used in interesting and unique ways. The story shocked me and is definitely for mature audiences. Has many uses to of cursing and has a lot of inappropriate and scary/disturbing in the story but has some crude humor to be easier digested. But all in all great volume 1 and will definitely be continuing the series in the foreseeable future.

One of the best manga.
This is one of those hidden gems that no one knows about (unfortunately), but is one of the best. It's dark, it has gore, but the story it tells is absolutely amazing. It's in my top manga list alongside Berserk, Vinland Saga, and Vagabond.Bought the whole collection, (waiting on the 8th volume right now)

A series that isn't for everyone but feels like it was made for me.
Fire Punch has been an incredible series to read, subverting expectations in ways that have been satisfying to me as a reader. As much as I enjoy it there are some elements that I could see being a turn off for other readers. Those who aren't into violence and other dark themes might need to give this a pass.

Ok
The pacing is very fast, manga is in good condition. The story is as captivating as the name suggests they progress so quickly you have no time to connect with the characters as introductions go could of been alot better

How do people not know about this?
This series easily makes my top 10. I never thought I'd find something so brilliant thanks to Mangarock's manga suggestion feature. I downloaded this immediately upon seeing the synopsis, knowing that I have found something that suits my tastes. When I got to reading it, I knew I was in for a treat. Upon reading this I knew it was a hidden gem, deserving of much more recognition.Go buy Firepunch, you won't find anything similar to this.

Highly recommended for those looking for a story unlike anything you ...
Unique and unsettling. Highly recommended for those looking for a story unlike anything you typically read in a manga. Be warned of very taboo themes and disturbing content.
