This is *very* good coffee.
This coffee has everything that I love about a good French Roast, but without the occasional sour notes and over-smoked aroma. The beans are not as oily as most very dark roasts which makes it perfect for the grinder. It actually reminds me of the coffee of "days gone by". A plus is that I have actually found that I use a bit less than I do with other "premium" coffees. I originally bought this on a whim from the local grocer in its pre-ground form to use in a cold-brew coffee maker and was so impressed that I had to find out if it came in whole bean. I was amazed that it did and immediately set off to Amazon and ordered a six-pack. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. In fact, I am so "not disappointed" that I am actually going to try the other blends...something I rarely do. Kudos to Folger for coming up with this coffee. Hopefully it will remain in their stable of products and not be tossed by the wayside or priced out of reach. Note that you will not find this coffee on the Folger's website, but on the 1850coffee.com website.2022 update: As expected, Folgers has discontinued this coffee due to "lack of support". Here's a question for the fine folks at Folgers: Why bother maintaining a website dedicated to a product that is no longer available?

Don't let the Folgers name fool you. This is THE best grocery store coffee you can buy.
I am somewhat of a coffee connoisseur and am quite particular. I do tend toward dark roasts because they are lower in acidity, and I prefer to taste the bean rather than the acid. Smuckers, who owns the Folgers brand, made some bad decisions in my opinion, by buying up some really good coffees and labeling them with the Folders brand. Folgers makes me think of the low-quality, pedestrian coffee that my mother and grandmother made. This is definitely not that.I buy the whole beans - which I've never seen for this brand in a grocery store - and grind them fresh each day. If you don't grind, I have to say that the pre-ground version of Folgers 1850 Black Gold is still really good. Ground or whole bean, the flavor is intense and satisfying from the time it touches the tongue.Highly recommended.

Great coffee, just wish I had gotten what I ordered.
My parents were coming into town and they are Folgers ground coffee drinkers. Me being the loving son I am, I thought I'd splurge a bit and get them some "high end" whole bean Folgers 1850 and grind them since fresh cups each morning. Placed the order and waited. Parents arrived and the coffee order arrived later the same day. The next morning, I got up early to grind some coffee only to discover I had been sent ground coffee instead of whole bean. The coffee was good, but not what I had ordered and ruined the experience I was shooting for. Hopefully it was just an incorrect pull during order fulfillment and doesn't happen to someone else expecting to grind their own beans.

Great flavor, but not whole bean
I was intending to buy whole bean, which the order record shows. I received ground coffee instead. I like the coffee anyway so I decided not to return it. But will have to try again to get whole bean. I intended to use it for French Press coffee and needed to grind it myself to get a coarser ground. So instead I will use it for my Keurig coffee maker. One more update, I ordered 1850 Black Gold, Dark Roast, Whole Bean. What I received was 1850 Pioneer Blend, Medium Roast, Ground Coffee. I kept the bag(s) anyway. I will try again, but see if I can't get it from a different vendor.

Same coffee but beans instead of ground.
Overall I am pleased especially with the delivery time and the coffee quality. However there was an error. It turned out to be a very minor one as the person I was buying for does not mind grinding coffee beans. The one issue I have is that I ordered Ground coffee for the 1850 pioneer blend but received the coffee beans version instead. I double checked and verified on my order that everything was correct so there was an error when the coffee was shipped or the label on Amazon is incorrect. Again this is minor as the person I ordered from enjoys coffee beans. Coffee quality is excellent and still my new favorite. I will definitely order again for myself. Hopefully next time it will be ground.

Yes it's Folgers. No it's not what you expect.
I was probably ordering this coffee for 6 months before someone told me it's a Folgers product. I was surprised. I love the flavor of this coffee over Seattle's best and several other brands. There are three roasting options that I know of and I like every single one of them for flavor, balance and aroma. We have at least four Coffee Roasters in Flagstaff and none of them compare in flavor to this 1850 brand. Sorry to the local Roasters but you overcook everything whereas Folgers does it perfectly every time

Surprisingly Excellent
I say 'suprisingly' only because Folgers retail brand is not something I use because I like fresh ground higher end coffees. I buy only whole bean and have a superautomatic machine to make it daily. I saw a commercial on Folgers 1850 higher grade and thought I'd give it a try. To my surprise, 1850 is better than nearly all the higher dollar brands which cost 2 to 3 times as much. They have certainly mastered this product. This is an excellent coffee and my choice for daily use now over all the others. Highly recommend.
