Easy Fun Read
I enjoyed this book, I really did. I kind of figured out the “secret” before it was disclosed at the end of the book. That said, this is a rags to riches fairy tale book that has little to do with real life. If that bothers you, there are plenty of other books to read during the holidays. Some books with inspiring true stories of connections made during the Christmas season. This book also deals with two alarming situations that we often read about in the news; one is a parent forgetting a child is in the car & going into work while the child suffers a horrible death. I guess I just prefer books that seem less fantasy & has a plot that is more feasible in real life. For example: traveling out of state with someone you barely know would be unlikely.

Christmas in July
I have watched and enjoyed the Hallmark movie, The Mistletoe Promise, it’s one of my favorites, more adult, addressing infidelity and divorce. I decided it was time to read the book it was based on. The books characters are fulling developed, and it has a deep sadness that would never be written into the movie. The book is Elise’s diary and is written from her perspective. Nick the attorney who suggests a Christmas Contract to spend 2 months before Christmas together is written as a truly generous, caring, and real. I read the book in a few hours as it flows easy and you watch the main characters enjoy different holiday events. Reading it in July was a great idea, it’s not your typical holiday romance. I was filled with emotions, heartbreak, sadness, hope, joy, and love. If you are looking for a light read pass on this until you are ready for a Christmas story full of life, heartbreak, despair, forgiveness, hope, second chances and love!

To find hope, look up.
I've been giving a Richard Paul Evans book to my daughter-in-law who lives in Utah every Christmas for nearly 15 years. Until this year, I'd never read one. When buying her gift this year I accidentally purchased a Kindle version. Upon realizing my mistake, I downloaded that version to my iPad and then ordered the printed copy for her. That's why I read The Mistletoe Promise this year. The storyline moved quickly and Evans' style is engaging. I enjoyed the book and found myself high-lighting key thoughts along the way. It was as if the author was speaking to me. One of those phrases was about hope when Nicholas (the leading male character) wrote... "My dear Elise, It’s been said that the Magi, wise men, gazed up into the night skies, following a star. But they were not looking for a star. They were looking for hope. Hope of a new world. Hope of redemption. Light is not found in dark places, and hope is not found looking down or looking back. May you always look up".This passage struck me, in part, because without hope it's easy to let optimism and opportunity slide by. And, in part, because for all those Christmases I've also sent a crystal star to my son's family to add to their tree. Maybe it's become the family tree of hope. Merry Christmas!

Christmas for the lonely ones
I had the extreme pleasure of reading several of Richard Paul Evans books during this Christmas season, they are outstanding. Elise Dutton and Nicholas Derr are people who are lonely and since Christmas is the loneliest time of the year for people who are alone, Nicholas hatched a plot to keep their spirits up for Christmas. They had a contract to be involved with each other for the seven weeks prior to Christmas. The concept is an interesting one and of course, there are hundreds of books that employ, agreements for temporary fiancée's, wives, and plus ones. This is unique in the employment of a written legal contract with specific rules. Elise had an awful divorce and a terrible marriage, she can't forgive herself for something that happened and her ex-husband never let her live it down. Those circumstances contributed to her depressing life without close friends. Nicholas lives a more active lifestyle but he has his own cross to bear. But together maybe they can support each other and make Christmas a better event for both of them. This is a wonderful, heart-touching, compassionate story. You will love it!

A heartwarming story of love and redemption...
What a beautiful love story! I just finished reading it for the third or fourth time. I enjoy this story so much that I read it every Christmas. I just checked and I have never left a review for it, so here goes. I have read and enjoyed all of Richard Paul Evans's books and this one did not disappoint. This is a heartwarming story of a man and a woman who both have dark secrets. I realize that some readers may be appalled by these secrets, but others will recognize that the heart and the mind can punish those with a tender conscience worse than time spent behind bars. Mr. Evans has created likeable characters (other than a certain ex-husband). Elise and Nicholas were so real that I could feel their joy and their pain, their hope and their feelings of rejection and dejection. l also liked the revelation of the character of Zoey, as well. Mr. Evans's characters are so realistic and lifelike. If you enjoy stories of love and redemption, you will certainly enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyable audio book for my car.
Had been looking for an audio book for Christmas after the excellent Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. Enjoyed this just as much.

Classic story for this author. You won’t forget this story. No spoilers. So many details that I had to google so many things. The author offers a good perspective of life.

an amazing story
I desperately needed to read a "feel good" book, something mindless and something nice. This book wasn't that--but I didn't choose the wrong story. This turned out to be a fantastic, unputdownable novel that, although supposed to be a Christmas story, turned out to be the best choice for a dark, dreary February day.
