Arrived on time
A lovely sipping whiskey with just a splash of water, sherry in abundance although not sickly and has a pleasant aftertaste.

Complex and confused ~ bit of a mystery this one...
I'm still not sure about this single malt. It definitely has some depth to it and it's certainly not unpleasant, but the sherry finish confuses my palate. It does work well for some Scottish malts but the body of this Irish one is too strong for the subtle sweetness sherry casks usually impart, leaving the overall taste a bit rough around the edges.A good experiment, but too complicated, and not in the best ways.It improves a bit with minor dilution, but the rough edge is still there to a degree.Back to Bushmills for me.

Smooth and tasty.
I normally go for a quality smooth Speyside whisky but I thought that I would like to sample an Irish malt for a change over Christmas and New Year and this whisky definitely didn't disappoint. This is not a peaty or smoky whisky and does not have the iodine taste of some Islay malts. So if you enjoy a whisky that's slightly sweet with a smooth after taste then this is worth a try. My son and I tried it neat to start with as we wanted to sample its true taste and found it really good. In this state you get what I would suggest is citrus sensation with a hint of caramel and then a slight tingling of the lips. Add water (or ice) and you have a really enjoyable Dram. I normally go for a Glenfarclas, Macallan or similar but Egan's Vintage Grain has now been added to my list. Slanje.

Not what you’d expect
Burnt rubber nose, bit harsh on the palate compared to your usual smooth Irish triple distilled whiskey

Great gift idea
I'm not much of a whiskey drinker but adding this to a glass of Coke resulted in a really nice drink. It was smooth and easy to drink, without feeling that my mouth was on fire afterwards (like with a Scotch whisky I have tried previously). The bottle comes nicely boxed which would make this a perfect gift for a whiskey lover (if you aren't just buying this for yourself).

Great balanced single malt
I'm generally more of a bourbon fan than single malts because many I've tried have either tasted too peaty or almost medicinal straight but this Egan's is a pleasant surprise from the category.I'm not great at picking out flavour notes in whisky so I won't give anything too specific and I personally find those descriptions too subjective anyway. All I can say is there's nothing offensive about it, its a nice middle of the road Irish whisky, its got flavour without having too many of those peaty elements that make some unbearable, that's more of a Scottish whisky thing anyway but worth mentioning. No horrible throat hit, just an easy drinker that's smooth and a step above your cheaper brands. Good either straight or mixed (tried with ginger beer and loved it).The bottle was gone within a few days so that speaks for itself.. or me.. but lets go with its because it tasted great!Would recommend as a gift (its well presented) or a nice end of day treat for yourself.

Not bad
Other reviews have not been favourable for this whiskey but we (husband and I) didn't find it too bad at all. I am not a fan of whiskey but I dutifully took my sip and found it to be no worse than other whiskey's I have tried, in fact I didn't even pull a face! My husband has been known to have a tipple of whiskey so had slightly more opinion that I. He said it reminded him of drinking whiskey in fields when he was not quite old enough to be buying the stuff from the shops himself. He thought it was smooth and he drank it neat with no ice or water added and enjoyed another glass shortly afterwards. We do not normally buy expensive alcohol and whiskey can sit in the cupboard for months as my husband does not drink often so had this not been offered through Vine we would not have purchased it as it is out of the price bracket we would normally spend. Having said that it seems a decent enough drink and the other harsh reviews are maybe a little unkind. We will be letting a friend try this who is a more of a whiskey connoisseur, just to see what he thinks. If he comes up with anything significant I will update the review.
